Sex and the Nation-State

Young Chinese people lack accurate information about safe sex - causing awkward first-time encounters, a skyrocketing STD rate, and a yearly abortion rate higher than the populations of dozens of other countries.

Of course, China isn't the only country dealing with relatively sudden sexual revolutions among young people, as similar trends have emerged in Iran in recent years (though abortion rates are much less known in this theocratically-Islamic country).

Definitely true--though to be certain, Chinese youth don't have nearly as much sex as we do, though rates are likely to rise as their culture/media/youth adopt more "modern" habits...

That said, the Chinese government isn't completely incompetent about public health issues. See, for example, . If only they put that knowledge to real use...
